External pointing effectively seals the perimeter gap between the sash and case and stonework to prevent the ingress of water. Where the external pointing has decayed, we will hack out the old pointing (and old newspapers), fill the back of the gap with special expanding foam to seal it and front over the repair with stone febmast for visual appeal and weathering. Pointing should not be painted as in due course the paint tends to crack and opens out the pointing. |
